The children-beneficiaries of the Pasiglahin ang Batang Pinoy Feeding Program (PBPFP) in Calatagan, Batangas

The  Pasiglahin ang Batang Pioy Feeding Program or  PBPFP was formally launched last January 25, 2008 in Calatagan, Batangas.  The activity is a joint endeveavor of Unilever Philippines with its partner agencies, the Kabisig ng Kalahi, the Enrique Zobel Foundation (EZF), the Municipality of Calatagan, Batangas, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Food and Nutrition Research Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (FNRI-DOST).

The Pasiglahin ang Batang Pinoy Feeding Program (PBPFP) specifically targets underweight 24-78 month-old children with the provision of one hot meal and SIGLAKAS products for 120 feeding days.

Children will be brought by their parents or caregivers at the assigned central feeding center.  As local counterparts, parents will be tapped as partners in managing the feeding proper wherein they  are expected  to do marketing, cooking and feeding the children-beneficiaries.

Dubbed as a “wholistic” supplementary feeding program, the PBPFP will not only feed the children-beneficiaries, but will also conduct mothers’ classes and parenting seminars, an approach taken with the end-view of delivering a total parenting package.

The Kabisig ng Kalahi and EZF take the lead in program delivery with Unilever Philippines supplying all the necessary inputs such as instant food packages, gas stoves, kitchen utensils and budgetary requirements for marketing and other incidental expenses.

The FNRI-DOST, on the other hand, will evaluate the feeding program to measure its effectiveness in improving the nutritional status of children.

Gracing the launching program that was held in the Calatagan Multipurpose Hall are Hon. Mayor Sophia Palacio, M.D.; Ms. Dee Ann Zobel, Chair of EZF; Mr. Joselito Rodriguez, Executive Director of EZF; and select members of the EZF Board; Mrs. Vicky Wieneke, President-Head Convenor of Kabisig ng Kalahi; Ms. Jika Mendoza-Dalayan, Corporate Relations Director of Unilever Philippines; Ms. Precy Escalante, Nutritionist of the DSWD; Ms. Bajeng Santos-Ortiz, Brand Manage of Knorr and Dr. Ferdinand B.
