The Department of Science and Technology – Food and Nutrition Research Institute steps up response to current COVID-19 pandemic as it links with other government agencies in evaluating the beneficial effects of the virgin coconut oil (VCO) among suspect and probable cases of COVID-19.

The DOST-FNRI as project lead, has collaborated with  DOST-Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD), DOST-Regional Office IV-CALABARZON,  Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) and the Local Government of Sta. Rosa City, Laguna in conducting this study.

The DOST-FNRI project team, led by Dr. Imelda Angeles -  Agdeppa, Scientist II and Chief Science Research Specialist and Dr. Mario V. Capanzana, FNRI Director, met with Sta. Rosa LGU headed by Honorable Arlene B. Arcillas, the Sta. Rosa City Health Officer, the Chief Medical Officer of Sta. Rosa Community Hospital and key staff of the 2 sites for preliminary orientation and levelling of expectations on April 28, 2020 at the study site.  The DOST-Regional Office IV-A CALABARZON was also represented in the meeting by Ms. Emelita P. Bagsit, Supervising SRS and Executive Manager for Technical Services. 

The study will run for 28 days of controlled intervention trial and is expected to be completed by June 2020.
